Longmont Recreation Center: Renewing Community Wellness

A Central Hub for Recreation

Located at 310 Quail Road, the Longmont Recreation Center is the focal point for fitness, aquatic, and community engagement in Longmont. It encompasses a full-size gymnasium, weight and cardio rooms, group fitness studios, locker rooms, climbing wall, and pools with sauna, steam, and hot tub amenities.

Recent and Ongoing Upgrades

Fitness Space Expansion (2022–2026 Capital Improvement Plan)

A major multi-phase renovation is underway to redesign the south lobby and concession areas into additional space for cardio machines, creating a reserved cardio-theater zone to meet growing demand for fitness services.

Leisure Pool Enhancement

In September 2014, the center unveiled a fully refreshed ADA-compliant leisure pool area. Upgrades included racer slides, dumping bucket, spray jets, and interactive water features designed for children under 10 and families, offering renewed excitement and accessibility.

Community Impact & Public Engagement

The city has actively engaged residents in planning future recreational expansions. In surveys and outreach sessions during 2023, community members voiced interest in expanded amenities such as a new facility at Dry Creek Park featuring lap pools, gym space, classrooms, and multipurpose areas.

Local Perspective

Community members often highlight the Rec Center’s sauna, steam room, and hot tub among its top amenities, calling them enjoyable and well-maintained. While the gym is described as modest in size—similar to a mid-sized apartment complex—it’s become central to resident wellness thanks to its comprehensive pool facilities and relaxing thermal amenities.

Longmont’s Recreation Center is steadily evolving—upgrading aquatic zones, expanding fitness space, and modernizing infrastructure to keep pace with community needs. As plans for a new rec center or major renovation move forward, public participation remains central to shaping a facility that reflects shared values and supports long-term wellness.
