Urbandale High School – Performance-Driven Fitness & Wellness Center

Facility Overview & Community Investment

As part of Urbandale Community Schools’ 2019–2020 capital upgrades, the high school unveiled a state-of-the-art Fitness Center in spring 2020. Covering approximately 18,000 sq ft, the facility includes:

  • A 9,300 sq ft weight & fitness zone equipped for free weights, strength training, speed/agility, and turf/track use
  • A 3,800 sq ft multipurpose studio adorned with yoga, dance, and PE-compatible flooring
  • Additional support infrastructure: new lobby, concessions, restrooms, and circulation areas totaling nearly 4,900 sq ft

Facility Recognition & Vision

Coach Pete Traynor, strength and conditioning director, led the comprehensive project—it included touring 39 other facilities to perfect design, flow, and functionality. Thanks to this investment and vision, the facility was ranked among the top in the country by MaxPreps in 2020.

Push Pedal Pull Collaboration (with Dynamic Customization)

Role & Equipment Strategy

Key introductions and layout design were facilitated through Push Pedal Pull’s rep (Luke Reiland), who presented Dynamic Fitness & Strength equipment as a premier solution aligned with school needs. This allowed the school to access highly customized, branded training gear in the final layout, including:

  • 26 power rack stations outfitted with personalized storage bridges and Urbandale-branded dumbbells
  • 4 racks featuring lat‑pulldown/hi‑lo cable column attachments
  • Additional equipment: 8 GHD hyper combos, 2 belt squat stations, and inverse leg curl units
  • Dedicated turf lane and pulled sled/agility training areas
Coach Traynor emphasizes that the belt squat and Exxentric kBox flywheel devices were essential for injury-safe, eccentric-focused programming.

Integrated Use & Student Access

Each rack includes an iPad or tablet loaded with individualized training programs for over 650 student-athletes, enabling efficient tracking and workout flow. The design supports academic PE courses as well as team and athlete-specific conditioning sessions.

Urbandale High School’s Fitness Center stands as an exemplar of high school athletic infrastructure: expansive, brand-forward, functionally zoned, and digitally supported. While Dynamic Fitness & Strength executed the installation, Push Pedal Pull played a pivotal role in guiding the district to a customized, student-first solution. Together, this collaboration has created a facility that empowers performance, supports PE curriculum, and elevates student-athlete experience for years to come.
